Get Ready to Move
If you’re the usual, everyday consumer, you probably don’t call an auto transport company very often. In fact, you’ll probably ever call them only about once or twice in your life. That’s because an automobile transport company’s services are so specialized (and quite expensive) that you very rarely have a need for them. That said, the upcoming call to the auto transport company is probably your first one, and your car’s ride on their transport truck is probably its first as well. Here are some tips to help make the entire procedure as smooth and hassle-free as possible.
Get It the Way You Sent It
A very big issue with both clients and auto transport companies is the damage incurred on a car by the process of moving it. It’s unavoidable that the customer will spot scratches or damage that he or she will swear was never there before. If the customer doesn’t have any proof, however, it’s unlikely that the car transport company will bother to foot the bill for repairs.
In order to ensure that you get your car back in the condition in which it was sent to its destination, carefully and thoroughly document the condition of the car. Make a list of existing damages and, if possible, take photographs with the date on it. That way, you know exactly how your car was before the trip and you have photographic proof to show to the company in case it does get damaged in transit.
Lose the Baggage
Another valuable step is to completely remove all personal belongings and just about anything non-critical to the car’s operation. That includes personal effects, your CD collection, the stuff in the trunk, the cigarette lighter charger for your mobile phone, and whatever accessories you may have put inside. That way, both you and the company benefit – they’re sure you won’t lose anything (because there’s nothing there to lose), and you’re sure that they won’t take anything or overcharge you for your car’s weight (all those trinkets add up to the weight too).
Leave It in Driving Condition
Remember that the automobile transport people will also have to drive your car to and from their holding areas and their transport vehicles. Be considerate and keep the car in running condition – leave at least a quarter tank of gas, ensure the battery’s alive, etc. Aside from helping expedite the shipping process, this will save you the hassle of picking up a non-functional car.
Your first time going with an auto transport company might be one fraught with impatience and anxiety. After all, you’re entrusting the car transport company with something of great value. Take the advice above and you’ll be sure of a trouble-free experience.
