This Is How We Do It

Moving house is probably not one of the things you do frequently. Consequently, there’s a very good chance that you’re not very familiar with the procedure of searching for, reserving, renting, and returning a moving vehicle. This article aims to change that. After you’ve read the article, try to perform the outline steps in sequence.

Find out what you need – measure and count out how many items (in terms of rooms) you will need. You should generally allot three to five meters per room, but you can ask the truck rental company for a fair assessment of your needs. Furthermore, start listing the supplies you’ll need, such as bubble wrap, boxes, packaging tape, dollies, padding, and the like. Aside from making the actual moving process quicker, having these things ready will save you the trouble and cost of having to get the said items from the moving truck rental company.

Ask around for a good price – go around and ask for prices and policies from at least five companies. List down the types of trucks available, the value added services, the credibility of the moving truck rental company, and the cost of each rental option. Take note of the pros and cons for each company and then make your decision. This should be done at least a month before the planned moving day.

Start arranging with your chosen company – once you’ve made your choice, state your intent to the company so that you can talk business and get down to details. Work out the prices, the requirements, the policies, and the paperwork. Get things like insurance and liability clear with the company before you even reserve a vehicle. Also, ask about their policy with one-way moves – some moving truck rental companies charge more because the vehicle has to be returned to the originating point.

Prepare the papers – renting a moving truck involves a small amount of paperwork, but that small amount of paperwork could mean big delays if they’re not prepared beforehand. Get your driver’s license ready; this should be valid and up to date. You should carefully peruse the rental contract and look at your insurance policies so you could be adequately insured at the least possible cost.

Reserve your moving truck – after you’ve gotten everything cleared up with the company, you should reserve your vehicle. Actual reservation should be done at least two weeks before the planned moving date. The earlier you do this, the better it will be because you’ll get priority in terms of the rental vehicle as well as be able to avoid short-notice rental surcharges.

Get your moving truck – on the appointed day, get your truck from the lot and start loading it. May you have a safe trip!
